In 1991/92, we hired Mike Dunn as a contractor to build our house. In 2012, we hired Mike again to do a renovation, and in 2014 to complete an addition. We did not use an architect for any of these projects, and Mike was very helpful in leading us through all of the steps from ideas, to drawings, to permits, through scheduling, materials and choices of finishing’s. Mike has a good eye for design and materials and offered us great suggestions which we hadn’t considered, and which have drastically improved the beauty of our home. During these projects we were very pleased with Mike’s work and that of his crew. As a contractor, Mike is a good listener and cares about understanding the wants of his clients. He is adept at collaborating in all decision-making, communicating well with the client and involving us in decisions and problem-solving. He was both patient and tenacious in working through some of the hassles and road blocks (which in our case came from the Conservation Authority and the bank). Building our retirement home with Mike Dunn Construction was definitely the right choice. We began the project in November 2009, and moved into our new home by early May. We’ve renovated many houses with different contractors over the years, but Mike Dunn Construction sits at the top of the list. Mike provided us with a 1000 sq. ft. addition and many upgrades to our 1908 farmhouse and handled it all effortlessly. From old wiring to new heating, his knowledge of construction requirements and his attention to detail are unbeatable. His employees are great: easy to work with, fast, efficient, clean and courteous. A joy to have around. Once the project was finished, we missed them. Mike supervised the project thoroughly, keeping the trades on time and the mess to a minimum so that we could easily live in the house while the work progressed. Most importantly, the quality of the work was always to code with no corners cut. Safety and energy efficiency came first with all the contractors that installed heating, plumbing and electrical. We received first class workmanship from framing to trimming out.
